Dr. Daniel Danilewicz


Biologist from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1998). PhD in Ecology and Evolution of Biodiversity from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (2007). Researcher at the Aquatic Mammal Study Group of Rio Grande do Sul since 1992 and at the Aqualie Institute since 2008. Permanent Professor and Advisor in the Postgraduate Program in Zoology at UESC (master's and doctorate). Member of the Technical Advisory Group of the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) for the National Action Plan for the Conservation of the Franciscana. Has experience in biology, ecology and conservation of marine mammals. Coordinates research projects aimed at assessing the density and distribution of marine megafauna applying aerial (manned and UAVs) and on-board monitoring. He has experience in studies of cetacean-fishing interactions, satellite telemetry of cetaceans and life history (age, growth, reproduction) of marine mammals.

Ecosul Tourism

Ecosul Turismo is a nautical ecotourism company founded in 2021 and specialized in whale watching activities on the coast of Ilhéus. Since 2022, Ecosul has maintained a close partnership with the Aquatic Mammal Research Group of Ilhéus (GPMAI), offering a place on board during whale watching tourism trips. This collaboration allows GPMAI researchers to collect valuable data on humpback whales ( Megaptera novaeangliae ), with an emphasis on the use of drones for monitoring and documentation of the species.
